Tom Kovic is the founder and President of Victory Collegiate Consulting, where he personally oversees all aspects of VCC and advises individual families and prospective student-athletes in developing and executing personal plans for the college search. He has assisted in placing over 200 candidates to top colleges and universities during the past 6 years.
Tom Kovic lectures widely throughout the United States in an effort to grow educational awareness about the college search for athletes. He has delivered nearly 350 presentations and seminars to over 4,500 participants since launching VCC in 2006. He has presented on college athletics recruiting at the US National Lacrosse Convention, USA Gymnastics National Congress, the IECA National Convention and the New York State Athletics Directors Convention.
Demer Holleran joined the Victory Collegiate Consulting staff as a senior advisor in January, 2011. She has spent her sporting and professional coaching life in and around excellent colleges. As a student- athlete at Princeton, Demer received All-Ivy recognition in her three varsity sports: squash, field hockey and lacrosse. Following college, she focused her professional playing and coaching career in squash. Following three Intercollegiate Individual titles while at Princeton, Demer was the US Squash National Champion in singles and/or doubles from 1989-2004. She was the head coach of women’s squash at the University of Pennsylvania from 1992-2001, leading the team in its rise from the #10 ranking to undefeated National Champions in 2000.
In 2006 Demer launched the Fairmount Athletic Club in King of Prussia, a 14 squash court fitness and squash club. Fairmount annually hosts several US Squash National Ranking junior tournaments which each attract well over 200 participants, including the Gold National Championships in 2009 and the Bronze National Championships in 2008. In 2010 Demer organized and ran the first Squash Showcase and College Expo which brought together college coaches and prospective student-athletes. This first annual event at Fairmount, held in late August, attracted over 100 participants to learn about the college recruiting process. Demer was the moderator on the College Recruiting panels which allowed student-athletes and their parents to hear directly from coaches representing over 20 college squash programs.
In addition, Demer is director of the Holleran Squash Camp which has run overnight camps annually since 1995. She currently runs camps for three weeks during the summer at The Lawrenceville School in NJ.
Demer looks forward to working closely with student-athletes and their families to help them in the process of finding the right college match. Demer has first-hand knowledge of many of the excellent colleges that student-athletes will be considering both from nearly 10 years coaching the Penn team and through her own and her three sisters’ degrees received from Harvard, Yale, Penn, Princeton, Dartmouth and Williams.
Dave Micahnik joined Victory Collegiate Consulting in December of 2012 as a senior advisor. Coach Micahnik enjoyed a storied career as an athlete and coach for over 55 years. He has set the highest standards as an Olympian, national team fencer, college coach, national team coach and armorer, camp director, referee and administrator since 1955. He is honored as a member in both the University of Pennsylvania Athletic Hall of Fame and the United States Fencing Hall of Fame.
Dave is most proud of the success of the student-athletes he has coached, many of whom have been All-Americans, National Team fencers, and Olympians. Thirty-two of his former Penn fencers have competed for the USA in international competitions, including the Olympic Games, Pan-American Games, World Championships, World Junior Championships, and World Maccabiah Championships.
David M. Micahnik, Fencing Master
Steve Shephard joined the Victory staff as a senior advisor in May 2011. Steve was the Head Coach of Women’s Gymnastics at Penn State University for 18 years where he enjoyed an illustrious career. He coached 21 All Americans and led the Nittany Lions to the NCAA Gymnastics Championships 9 times in his tenure. He also coached numerous conference and Regional champions, along with and 106 all-conference academic selections. Steve was named The Big Ten Coach of the Year three times (1999, 2006, 2009) and he earned tremendous respect nationwide in his ability to recruit some of the finest student-athletes from the United States and around the world.
As an athlete, Steve earned a full athletic scholarship to Southern Illinois University where his team earned a fourth place finish in 1975 at The NCAA Championships. Steve moved on to become a graduate assistant at SIU where he coached national champion Brian Babcock. In 1980 he earned a Masters degree in Kinesiology from SIU with an emphasis in biomechanics. That same year, he was chosen to be the head men’s gymnastics coach at Ball State University. He coached his team to a conference championship.

In 2010 Steve decided to retire from coaching and returned to school to complete his degree in Counseling. Steve is currently employed by the University as a health educator, where he counsels mandated students with drug and alcohol violations of the University’s code of conduct. Steve’s interests include playing guitar, photography, and mountain biking. He has been married to Debbie Shephard for 31 years and has two sons (Sam and Taylor). Both his boys are graduates of Penn State.
Alan Hott brings almost 10 years of experience in the Mid-American, Big Ten, and Mountain West Conferences as an athletic academic advisor to Victory Collegiate Consulting. Most recently, Alan served as the Athletic Academic Advisor to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas football program; advising all 105 football student-athletes and working with families of prospective student-athletes to the program during the recruiting process. Alan brings a unique skill set to VCC. He is our expert in the area of transfer advisement, while engaging families as our "go to guy" with NCAA academic and eligibility issues. Alan prides himself on his ability to anticipate the potential issues that a high school or transfer student-athlete might encounter in regards to NCAA academic policies. His expertise in the field of athletic academics will allow VCC clients to have peace of mind when faced with the constantly changing and evolving NCAA academic policies. Alan will be able to look at your specific situation and develop a plan of action to make sure you are on the right track towards academic eligibility.
Alan currently resides in Las Vegas, NV where he is employed at UNLV as a Senior Academic Advisor in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. Alan played collegiate tennis at Millikin University in Decatur, IL (NCAA Division III), and holds a M.S. in Sport Management from Northern Illinois University. He is an active tennis player in the USTA Southern Nevada region.
